Katherine Ann Stephenson has just discovered that she's inherited her mother's magical talents, and despite Stepmama's stern objections, she's determined to learn how to use them. But with her eldest sister Elissa's intended fiance, the sinister Sir Neville, showing a dangerous interest in Kat's magical potential; her other sister, Angeline, wreaking romantic havoc with her own witchcraft; and a highwayman lurking in the forest, even Kat's reckless heroism will be tested to the utmost. If she can learn to control her new powers, will Kat be able to rescue her family and win her sisters their true love?
Kat, Incorrigible is a sassy and witty middle grade book that will undoubtedly please young readers. Kat is the ultimate fabulous heroine with her undeniable courage and her adventure-prone nature. I loved the rich writing and smart narration. Kat has a wonderful magnetic voice that just makes you fall in love with her stubborn personality right away. Being only 12, she can get away with innocent and childish remarks that served to enhance her character. I absolutely adored her.
All characters in the story were fully three-dimensional and well crafted. Besides Kat, the characters were my favorite part of the novel. Specially Angeline and Frederick Carlyle! It was so refreshing to read about Kat and her adventures. Plus, the fact that the setting is historical (1803) was another bonus. I did feel that the fast plot slowed some at several points. I didn't feel there was a climax or a turning point. Things just settled or got resolved smoothly. That was probably my only complaint. But the ending was fantastic. And I cant wait to take on another adventure with Kat! I'm also in love with the cover. So cute and attention-grabbing!
Overall, a smart and fun story, sprinkled with magic and history and enriched with delicious writing that will appeal and utterly entertain middle grade readers everywhere.
