"Throughout all my histories, I found no one I loved more than you...no one."
Those were some of Rhode's last words to me. The last time he would pronounce his love. The last time I would see his face.
It was the first time in 592 years I could take a breath. Lay in the sun. Taste.
Rhode sacrificed himself so I, Lenah Beaudonte, could be human again. So I could stop the blood lust.
I never expected to fall in love with someone else that wasn't Rhode.
But Justin was...daring. Exciting. More beautiful than I could dream.
I never expected to be sixteen again...then again, I never expected my past to come back and haunt me...

I am not quite sure why I enjoyed this so much if it's exactly what I've been trying to avoid (mysterious plot about a paranormal creature and a human falling in love against all odds and being in mortal danger because of it) but, being a die-hard True Blood fan, a new book series named "Vampire Queen" was certainly appealing.

Whatever the reason, I was instantly sucked into the novel and the first third of the book was almost unputdownable for me. Truth is, I love historical fiction. I also love vampires (well-done unsparkly ones). At the beginning of the story, since -- is a vampire that has been alive for almos 600 years, we get a lot of pre-story--stuff that happened centuries ago. This had a hypnotizing effect on me. I still need more! I need a prequel series!

I normally love books set in boarding school, but in this case it didn't feel relevant at all. The characters were interesting, specially the vampires. Justin aka super-hot human love interest, was unfortunately plain and boring. I'm craving Rhode instead *swoon*. Though I liked the fact that, in spite of it being a love story, she has had love stories before (duh, she's 600!).

The writing was good, the voice sort of felt like a very old person, yet sometimes it felt forced. But overall I enjoyed Lhena's voice a lot. There were these fun moments when her lack of modern knowledge made me smile.

Overall, a very nice start to a promising series that reminds us that... we'll always have vampires. Cant wait for more!

Whoa, this sounds like an interesting concept. But it's a must read for me. Esp with the paranormal romance stuff. Teehee :) Thanks for your review!
