Lani and Erin are bonded for life. One thing that connects them is their fascination of fate. Lani wonders how much of our lives has already been decided and how much we can actually influence. Since the Unknown can unexpectedly change our lives forever, how much can we really control?
From the minute Lani meets Jason, she can't deny the intense connection they share. It feels like she's known him forever. She's not sure if he feels it, too. But it doesn't matter. Because Jason is Erin's boyfriend. Lani is determined to ignore her feelings for Jason, no matter how powerful they are, rather than risk hurting her best friend.
How long can Lani keep running from the boy who might be her destiny?
Unbelievably enough, this is my first Susane Colasanti book. First thing I notice, this book has that fresh easy-going voice that makes you think it's one of your friends who's telling the story. On the other hand, just like with Sarah Dessen, the back and forth within a chapter sometimes annoys me. But it works, and makes a short yet "meaty" book. It could have been longer, but with her skipping from one moment to the next, it lets you in the basics without any TMI.
Very well developed characters and interesting sub-plots gives this predictable and over-done issue a whole new meaning. What could have been a very boring story about girl-who-falls-for-bff's-boy is enriched by Blake's story. He was my favorite character, because even though she manages to bring all characters to life, Colasanti fails with the male lead, Jason, whose personality is completely missing from the pages. Except those qualities he shares with Lani because, you know, they're soul mates. He seemed like just the perfect boy, no issues there. But Lani's boy bff, Blake, was charming dreamy and everything one would ask for in a male bff. Yes, even gay. Had he not been in the book it would be just another corny read.
Overall, for the romantic teen-love types, I believe this book will be very pleasing indeed. 3.5

Great review. If you're anything like me, you'd probably enjoy both When it Happens and Waiting for You by Colasanti much more. At least, I did.
Here's my review of it if you're interested.
Happy readings!
I'm a HUGE Susane Colasanti - I'd really suggest reading When It Happens. That's my favorite book by her, with Something Like Fate coming in second.
I haven't read this yet but I need to. I've only read one Colasanti book, and I think I should read more. Glad you enjoyed it!
This sounds better than I would have expected. Thanks for the great review. I love the cover. Talk about 'behind her back"!
