Just Listen - Sarah Dessen

Young Adult
Pages: 384
Publisher: Viking Juvenile
Release Date: April 6, 2006

When Annabel, the youngest of three beautiful sisters, has a bitter falling out with her best friend—the popular and exciting Sophie—she suddenly finds herself isolated and friendless. but then she meets owen—a loner, passionate about music and his weekly radio show, and always determined to tell the truth. And when they develop a friendship, Annabel is not only introduced to new music but is encouraged to listen to her own inner voice. with owen's help, can Annabel find the courage to speak out about what exactly happened the night her friendship with Sophie came to a screeching halt?

Having read quite a few of her books lately I can say that, even though the plots are alike, it's just impossible not to like them. She has one of the most captivating writing styles I've seen in my short reading life. This is one of my favorite Dessen books so far because it involves so many parts of what my personal life has been. I worked in modeling, I worked in radio and I had an eating disorder and the book includes all 3 things. It is seriously amazing and it truly blows me away the way Dessen talks about any kind of issues as if, somehow, she has been through all of them and can describe them in detail. What an excellent writer she is.

The characters felt unbelievably real, the plot was marvelous and the cover is probably my favorite cover from any of her books. Had I known I'd love her books this much I would have picked them up long ago. This is a must-read for anyone who enjoys realistic fiction.\

Oh, and yay for all being well involving your eating disorder! (You did say "had", right? Yes... you did. :P)

Nice review :) This isn't one of my favorites of Dessen, but I can completely see why it appeals to so many people. You're right, she does write like she's been through it all, huh?
